AN ENGINEER'S APPROACH TO MARKETING

How To Create Effective Marketing Hooks for Facebook Ads

“How To Create Effective Marketing Hooks for Facebook Ads” written by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling to get results with your Facebook ads?

Facebook ads can be tricky.  You can try again and again and now get great results.

I know… I was there.  When paying for Facebook ads feels like you are giving donations to Facebook.

But when you know the trick to doing effective Facebook ads, it gets easier and you start seeing great results.  That’s why I want to talk to you today about Facebook marketing hooks.

Effective Marketing Hooks for Facebook Ads

Previously, we talked about Facebook ads and how to create capture pages and engineer an ad matrix.    These are essential parts of marketing with Facebook.  But you still need to create the marketing hooks in the Facebook ad itself to get the click.

free bootcamp training mini course internet marketing - mike marko - smm - seo - search engine optimization

That’s why you need to take the time to identify and develop marketing hooks.

The marketing hook is the “marketing message”, or the WHY peopel want to take you up on your offer.  Often tis offer is the lead magnet.

If your offer doesn’t include the hook then you’re going to have a difficult time getting people to take you up on your offer.  That means you need to explain the value as to why they need to take you up on the offer.

There are SIX different types of hooks:

Have

When the visitor takes this offer, what will they have that they didnt’ have before?  The best way to look at this is to think of it as a Before and After scenario.

Feel

How will the visitor feel after they take your offer?  Will they feel more relaxed, wil they be pain free, or will they feel more confident?

Status

How does the visitor’s status change when they have consumed (and implemented) what you offer?  How will it help elevate their status?

Speed & Automation

How will the offer speed up or automate the visitor’s life or business?  For example, this pencil sharpener will iterally shave 10 seconds off your sharpening time.

Average Day

How will your offer improve their average day?  What mundane task does your offer improve?  Does what you offer save them time or energy on a day-to-day basis?

Proof/Results

This is a pretty common hook.  Case studies or reports help demonstrate proof or results that the visitor could experience with your offer.  This is considered “social proof”.

An example could be “join hundreds of people who have already benefited from xyz!”  You can also explain actual results they occured because of the offer.

Final Thoughts On How To Create Effective Marketing Hooks for Facebook Ads

Creating marketing hooks is a very important part of creating Facebook ads.  When you use these marketing hooks as part of your ad matrix, you can really improve the effectiveness of your Facebook ads.

Most of your Hooks are going to flop — and that’s fine! Testing multiple Hooks gives you room for error… you never know what people are actually going to respond to until you test it.

How to Build Facebook Ad Campaigns Effectively With An Ad Grid

“How to Build Facebook Ad Campaigns Effectively With An Ad Grid” written and video by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling with getting effective Facebook ads?  Tired of “wasting your money” on ads that often don’t work?

I get it… Facebook ads can be tough.  There’s a lot to them.  And a lot of times an ad won’t get the results you want.

That’s because MOST ads are one hit wonders… and the message is not congruent to the market you are promoting to.

That’s why I want to take the time today to talk about how to build Facebook ad campaigns effectively with an ad grid.

How to Build Facebook Ad Campaigns With An Ad Grid

In the following video I talk about how to build Facebook ad campaigns by using an ad grid.

VIDEO: How To Build Facebook Ad Campaigns That Get Results

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”22480″]

In the video I talk about how to effectively get away from the “one-hit wonder” Facebook ads and actually create Facebook ad campaigns that get results.  Now I’m going to go into further detail on how to build these effective marketing campaigns.

free bootcamp training mini course internet marketing - mike marko - smm - seo - search engine optimization

The Ad Grid was created to help increase ad success rate 20 times over.  It’s how we plan, test, and measure our paid traffic campaigns.  It’s the way we organize and carefully coordinate our traffic strategy.

Basically… the Ad Grid takes the guess work out of creating ad campaigns.

The matrix looks like this:

How to Build Facebook Ad Campaigns Effectively With An Ad Grid

There is a of power behind the Ad Grid that goes beyond it just being a spreadsheet.

But first let’s talk about the trap you’re probably falling into if you are not implementing a similar strategy.  It’s one I’ve fallen into a lot in the past…

The “One-Hit Wonder” Campaign

The “one-hit wonder” is a phenomena that occurs when marketers just make ads.

That is… they don’t come up with a plan.  They may make a couple ads with one or two different audiences, and they may even test a couple images, but that’s pretty much it… They then launch the ad and expect the leads and sales to pour in.

But… most of the time the leads and sales DON’T pour in.  Or the campaign is only successful for a few days or weeks.

The reason this doesn’t work is because you are only giving yourself 1 or 2 chances to sell your offer.  And if those offers don’t resonate with your audience then your campaign will fail.

Most people will quit at this point…

One-Off Campaigns Are Bad

One-off campaigns are bad because:

  1. They only work for a short amount of time
  2. They typically have lower quality scores.  It doesn’t resonate with the audience.
  3. They aren’t scalable.  It’s really hard to find the ad that will work best over a longer time period.
  4. They will repel the customers because the ad is almost jamming the offer down their throats
  5. The message is put in front of the wrong audience.

That’s why it’s good to use an approach like the Ad Grid.

The Ad Grid Process

The Ad Grid helps you have a systematic and thorough way of creating ads.  This prevents you from wasting time and money.

It’s very important that you create an Ad Grid for every offer your create.

Now when you create an Ad Grid, the key is to focus on the capture page and lead magnet.  That is the beginning of the funnel.  The goal of the ad (and the Ad Grid) is to get clicks to the capture page and that’s it.

The Steps Of The Ad Grid

The following are the steps of the Ad Grid are as follows:

  1. Identify your avatars.
  2. Identify your hooks.  The hook is the market message of your offer, or the why people should opt into your offer to get the lead magnet.
  3. Write the sales copy.  Make sure when you write the sales copy that you present the offer to the avatar, and that you market message is congruent with the offer on the capture page.  That means that you need to make sure people know what to expect with they click the ad and go to the capture page.  Put the sales copy into the Ad Grid to track it.  I use a spreadsheet like Excel to store the copy.
  4. Avatar research.  Make sure you pick the right social media platform for your avatar, and that you choose the right groups and interests for the ad.  Otherwise you could be presenting the offer to the wrong audience.
  5. Create the creative.  Make sure the creative depicts the hook… which is your marketing message.  The creative needs to help support the ad message.
  6. Compile the results.  Run the ads for five to seven days before you really start analyzing your results.  Make sure you pick the right success metric for measuring the results of the ad (ROI, cost per acquisition, cost per lead, cost per click, etc).
  7. Scale up.  Now that you found a successfully converting ad, scale down the ads that aren’t getting results and scale up the ad (or ads) that are really performing.

Final Thoughts On How to Build Facebook Ad Campaigns With An Ad Grid

When you get into the habit of successfully using the Ad Grid for EVERY offer you present you will avoid the “one-hit wonders” approach that most marketers are doing.  Use the Ad Grid to find the ads that work and scale them up.  You’ll find that your marketing results will be that much better when you use a thorough approach like this.

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

“How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads” written and video by Mike Marko.

Facebook can be an amazing way to getting your name and business out there.  When you think about the 1.4 billion Facebook accounts worldwide with 890 million daily active users… you quickly realize that Facebook is not a marketing tool you can ignore.

Previously we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of Facebook.  We also talked about how to do Facebook ads.

Today we’ll be talking about how to use Facebook pixels when you are running Facebook ads for your business.

How To Use Facebook Pixels

In the following video I talk about how to use Facebook pixels in your Facebook Ads.

Using Facebook pixels can have a significant impact on the results you get with Facebook ads.  Let’s cover this is a bit more in detail.

What Is And Why Use A Facebook Pixel

A Facebook pixel is some JavaScript code that goes into your website that enables you to measure, optimize and build audiences for your Facebook ad campaigns.  Using the Facebook pixel, you can leverage the actions people take on your website to help you have more effective Facebook advertising campaigns.

The Facebook pixel you can:

  • Measure cross-device conversions: See how your customers are moving between devices before they convert.
  • Optimize delivery to people likely to take action: Ensure your ads are being seen by people most likely to take the action you want them to take, like purchase or fill out a form.
  • Automatically build audiences for website visitors to retarget: Create Custom Audiences for people who take specific actions on your website, like visited a product page, added to cart or purchased a product.
  • Create Lookalike Audiences: Find more people who similar to your best customers.
  • Run dynamic product ads: Create relevant and timely ads on Facebook based on the products people have visited on your website.
  • Access Audience Insights: Get rich insights about the people who visit your website.

So let’s get started with putting your Facebook pixels into your website or marketing funnel.

Step 1: Get The Pixel

First go to the Pixel section.

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

Next call up the pixel code.

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

This will call up a window where you can copy the pixel code from.

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

Paste The Code Into A Text Document

To make things easier, I recommend pasting the Facebook pixel code into a text document, like Notepad or even Microsoft word.  This will make it easier to see all the code in order to make the next step easier.

Add In The Conversion Code

First open up the Create Conversion window by clicking the button.

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

Then select “Track Conversions With Standard Events.”

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

Open up all the standard events by clicking “See More.”

And then pick the right code for the pixel you want to place.

Picking What Pixel Conversion Code Do You Use

The pixel conversion code you pick is dependent on what you are trying to track.  You want to put the code the page AFTER the desired event you want to measure.  For example, if you want to measure leads then you need to put that conversion code on the page right after the lead is collected (often the thank you page).

The following flow chart helps illustrate an example of picking conversion codes for your Facebook pixels.

Placement of Conversion Code

You then put the conversion code

How to Use Facebook Pixels for Your Facebook Ads

Put Code Into Website

The final step is to put the Facebook pixel code into the website page header.  In some cases, the website doesn’t allow for a header on each page, and therefore you can only put view content on the website as a whole.  But with WordPress, and especially the marketing platform I use, you can easily put the code into the website as shown in the video above.

Final Thoughts On How To Use Facebook Pixels

Facebook can be a powerful platform to market your business.  If you use Facebook pixels to their full extent, then you can get even more from your Facebook ads.

How many posts you post to Facebook can have a significant impact on the results you get on Facebook for promoting your business.

MLSP Review From A Non-Affiliate: Get The Facts on My Lead System Pro

How Often To Post To Facebook Personal Pages

At the time of writing this article, Facebook has been favoring posts from personal pages over that of business pages.  It has been found even with my own personal posting that you get larger engagement when you post more often to a personal page.

That’s why it is often beneficial for personal businesses to leverage their personal pages to build a following and occasionally promote their business (maybe every 10-20% of your posts can be business related).  Primarily you should be posting more non-business things on Facebook because it is a social platform.

If you follow this rule, then if you are posting 5 times a day to facebook (spread throughout the day) then you can mention something related to your business every one or two days without getting too “pushy”.  Just don’t hard sell on your personal page.  😉

How Often To Post To Facebook Business Pages

Although I talked about posting frequently in the video I did, the number of times you should post to a business page really varies.  Keep in mind that Facebook recognizes that you are competing vs other business pages to show up in the feed.

Research has shown that for larger brands, with 10,000 followers or more, when you post once a day you get the most engagement per post.  Any more than that then there is a drop in engagement no the posts… though not so much of a drop off as to actually discourage you from posting more often.

On the other hand, smaller brands should post up to five times a day in order to be seen once per day.

What Time To Post

Now that you know how often to post on Facebook, the next logical question is when should you post.  When we look at the guidelines from QuickSprout and AdWeek we get the following:

  • Post at 1PM get the most shares
  • Posts at 3PM get the most clicks

Schedule Posts In Advance

It’s very difficult to post exactly at the right time, every day.  That’s why you should take advantage of the scheduling feature in Facebook Business Pages to schedule your posts in advance.  We often schedule our posts out for the week the Sunday night before every week… but you may find a better time for you.

Final Thoughts On How Often To Post To Facebook

Facebook can be a powerful platform to market your business.  If you use our guidelines, you’ll find that you get better results when exposing your brand online.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Facebook for Business

“The Advantages and Disadvantages of Facebook for Business” written by Mike Marko.

Facebook can be an amazing way to getting your name out there.  When you think about the 1.4 billion Facebook accounts worldwide with 890 million daily active users… you quickly realize that Facebook is not a marketing tool you can ignore.

But really even with all that said, is Facebook for business… your business?

So before you add Facebook to your marketing plan, let’s talk about both the advantages of Facebook and, of course, the disadvantages of Facebook.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Facebook

Let’s start with the advantages of Facebook.

The Advantages of Facebook for Business

Tons of Users.  We already mentioned that there are 890 million active users every day.  That speaks volumes.

Custom Facebook Page Design.  Custom designed pages are an excellent way of engaging with new visitors and potential customers. The key is to capture the viewer’s attention with interesting messages and visuals that entice them to like your page. Click this link to see our Facebook Page

Like, Comment and Share.  Facebook is ideal for uploading images and showcasing your products and services to followers. Followers can then ‘like’, ‘comment’ or even ‘share’ your images with their friends leading to more exposure for you.  It is ‘word of mouth’ marketing for the web!

Accessible Information.  The key to a successful Facebook page is updating your page regularly with useful and interactive content. You can use your page to connect with the public and showcase your business in an accessible manner.

Analytics.  When you update your Facebook page with more (and new) content you’ll get a better insight into how your fans engage with you; using their on-site suite of analytic reporting. Facebook analytics gives you information such as the day and time your fans are most likely to be engaging online, how much they interact with your posts beyond liking it, age and location demographics and visits to your page including breakdown by referrer.

Struggling Getting the Business Success You Deserve - yellow text 3

Facebook Advertising.  Facebook is one of my favorite paid traffic sources to market your business.  It’s an excellent way to target potential clients via the Facebook advertising platform. As a Facebook page administrator, you can aim your advertisements at potential customers through location, sex, age and interests… and that’s just to name a few. There are also more advanced demographics to choose from such as relationship status, language, education and work. Facebook advertising is an excellent means of directly targeting your audience.  This out my article on Facebook advertising for more information.

Link Your Facebook To Your Website.  Facebook can greatly improve your search engine optimization. When you publish content on your website and promote the link on Facebook, it will help drive traffic to your blog AND act as a backlink… giving your content more authority in the eyes of search engines.

Facebook For Image Or Video Hosting.  You can also use Facebook as an image or video hosting site. You can set privacy for individual album to make your video and image collection private or public.  Moreover, you can always download your complete collection of Facebook photos and videos using the Facebook backup account feature.

Found In Google Searches.  It is easier to rank Facebook in Google than most other social media platforms.  You can use the description fields to help tell search engines what your page is about and help with ranking.

free bootcamp training mini course internet marketing - mike marko - smm - seo - search engine optimization

The Disadvantages of Facebook for Business

Time and Resources.  Having to spend time and resources to maintain your Facebook business page is probably one of the biggest drawbacks. Business managers need to be aware that setting up a Facebook page does not mean people will automatically follow you… that you actually have to actively promote the page to help it get found.   Your company will need a dedicated member of staff who can monitor and respond to posts on a regular basis.  If you don’t post to your Facebook page regularly, it reflects badly on the company: it’s not something you can just create and forget about.  That’s why clients often hire my team to help maintain their Facebook business page for them.  Feel free to contact me for details.

Advertising Budget.  You’ll need a reasonable budget to be effective with your Facebook paid advertising.  I typically recommend having a minimum budget of $1000/month if you want to do the proper testing to help make sure you get optimized Facebook advertising results.  Facebook have 2 primary types of advertising sponsored stories (boosted posts) and Facebook Ads.
Within that there are 2 payment main options; Pay per Thousand Impressions (CPM), where you pay a fee each time your ad is viewed 1000 times
and Pay for Click (CPC) where you pay when an individual clicks on your ad.
To find out more about Facebook advertising click here.

Facebook Privacy.  One of the major concerns and disadvantages of the Facebook is to do with Facebook privacy. In the past, it has created a lot of buzz due to sudden changes in Facebook privacy settings… but now Facebook has simplified it’s privacy setting. Due to ignorance and lack of understanding of Facebook privacy feature, people made a lot of mistakes.  In addition, you also have to be concerned that anything posted to Facebook instantly because public.   So you have to be careful about posting  information too personal, whether in the video, pictures or text. Never give out too much personal information. As throughout the Internet, we should always keep in mind that nothing is private on the internet.

The Voice Of The Company.  You should not leave the management of your business Facebook page to an intern or someone who “thinks they know how to use Facebook”.  This is a common mistake made by businesses… they have someone managing their page who really don’t understand the overall message and brand of the company.  It’s important to represent your company in a professional manner. It is a good idea to set up a communications community that can monitor what is being published on behalf of your organisation.

Fake Facebook Profiles.  Facebook is full of fake profiles of girls and guys. You will find tons of fake Facebook profiles… often with a beautiful profile picture of a girl. There is no limit to number of these profiles.. and most of them are created by stalkers or by marketers to gain more friends and use it for their own marketing purposes.

Final Thoughts On Advantages and Disadvantages of Facebook

Facebook can be a powerful platform to market your business.  Take a look at both the advantages of Facebook and the disadvantages of Facebook and make your own decision if Facebook is right for your business marketing plan.

How to Advertise on Facebook with Paid Advertisements

“How to Advertise on Facebook with Paid Advertisements” written and video by Mike Marko.

Are you struggling to get leads and sales for your business?  Maybe you’re afraid to run paid ads for your business?

Facebook can be a powerful way to place targeted paid advertisements in front of your ideal customer… that is if you know what you are doing.  Otherwise it can seem like you are just placing donations to Facebook with little return.

I know… I have felt that way when I first started with Facebook ads.

That’s why I want to share with you my tips on how to advertise on Facebook with paid advertisements.  If you haven’t already checked it out, you should also read my article on How NOT To Get Your Facebook Ads Account Disabled.

How to Advertise on Facebook

In the following video I talk about how to advertise on Facebook with paid ads.

VIDEO: Advertising on Facebook The Right Way

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”21733″]

Note that in the above example, I forgot to show that the cost per sale was $25 with an average lifetime customer value of $100.  If you could make $4 for every $1 you put into the machine… how much would you put into it?  (just an example of what is possible).

Three Ways to Drive Traffic to an Offer

There are three main ways to get traffic to an offer or website. They are:

  1. Social media
  2. SEO (search engine optimization)
  3. Paid advertisements (like Facebook paid ads)

I use all three methods to get traffic to our websites.  What I specifically love about paid advertisements, like Facebook, is that it is scaleable (you can pay more to get a larger reach) and you can get in front of people who may not even know they need you.  This is based on knowing your target audience.  You solve a problem that they hadn’t thought about or got around to solving yet.

MLSP Review From A Non-Affiliate: Get The Facts on My Lead System Pro

Advantages of Facebook

There are several advantages to Facebook that make it a great marketing platform, such as:

  • There are a large number of users on this established social media platform (it’s not going away soon);
  • It’s a great advertising platform.  Facebook wants you to succeed and spend more advertising dollars;
  • The results are scaleable.  You can pay more to get even more traffic.  So if something is giving you a good return you can continue to expand your traffic (and thus your business).

How Much Should You Allow For Lead Costs

So how much should you spend per lead when doing Facebook ads?  Well.. that depends.

It is much better to determine that by approaching it backwards.  First you need to determine the lifetime value of a client/customer to your business: or in other words how much money will you make on average from a customer over the lifetime of them being a customer.

Once you know the average lifetime value of the customer you need to determine how well your “system” converts leads into sales.  This can range from 0.5% to 4% typically, but will vary depending on your system and your service/products.  If you don’t know start with a conservative value of 1%: meaning you need 100 leads to get a sale.  If you had a 2% conversion then you need 50 leads to get a sale, etc.

Now you divide the average lifetime value of a customer by the number of leads you need to get a sale.  That gives you the average lifetime value of a lead.

The final step is to determine how much advertising you want to spend to make $100.  If that is $25 (25% of the desired income), you then multiple the average lifetime value of a lead by the % you just came up with.

Ok… I know I even confused myself.

Let’s do an example:

Lets assume the average lifetime value of a customer is $1000.

And that the sales conversion is 1%, or it takes 100 leads to get a sale.  Therefore the average lifetime value of a lead is $10.

If we want to make $4 for every $1 of advertising we put in, then that means we can spend as much as $2.50 per lead.

The Different Elements Of A Facebook Ad

There are several elements to a Facebook ad… and all play a role to either get the attention of the Facebook user or to get the click.  Remember, the ultimate goal of a Facebook ad is to get a click and is NOT to get the sale.

We’ll use the following example ad to help walk  you through the elements.

How to Advertise on Facebook with Paid Advertisements

Image

The main goal of the image is to grab attention of the viewer.  Don’t create strong “click bait” images that are not congruent with the ad itself.  You may get the click but not the conversion.  Although the point of the ad is to get the click, clicks are not the ultimate goal in any ad: its to get conversions.  Clicks do not always mean conversions.  And Facebook is clamping down on “click bait”  ads so beware.

The image also allows you the opportunity to start branding yourself.  You don’t have to do this, but the opportunity is there if you want.

And it helps if the image is congruent with next page (the capture page or sales page, etc).  Congruent includes wording, colors, imagery, of course offer, etc.  If it isn’t, you’ll may get the clicks but you won’t get the desired result as the viewer things they have been duped and will quickly leave the target page.

Take time on the image because the image will be 80% of the reason why people click the link.

The display link can be used as a call to action: tell them what to do.  This is more effective than actually displaying a link.

We then use the “Learn More” button because it has been shown that the “Learn More” button gets more clicks than other buttons.

Main Body

The first part of the body should begin with a YES question.  That way the audience can start to agree with you and nodding.  In the example in the video, we took the “honest” approach and started to address what the viewer is seeing.

After the question, we make sure the viewer is made aware of their problem (often reminding them of their problem).

Then ask a question… and the way our brains are wired it will try to start trying to answer that question. So the question “How do you double your conversions?” makes the viewer think “So how do I double my conversions?”

Then you follow up with how they can get the answer.  In this case we specifically tell them that there will be a 90-minute video where they will learn how to double conversions.  We even address common objections the target audience may have (like often webinars often being mostly fluff and a waste of time) by relating to them and then addressing this concern by telling them them how this video training is different than other webinars.

The next step we tell them what to expect… that they have to click a link and give their email.  And that they won’t find out the information until after they give the email.

Then we build up the excitement by telling the reader that this is the first time this has been given for free.

Finally there is a call to action and the link to click.

How to Beat Facebook Rules And Build Customer Relationships

“How to Beat Facebook Rules And Build Customer Relationships” written by Mike Marko.

Are you having trouble keeping in contact with your clients on Facebook?

I know I was… After you get over 1000 friends on Facebook, keeping in touch with your clients can be a challenge.  Not only is there a lot of “friend feed” to sort through, Facebook’s algorithms prevents you from seeing everything.

But there is a way around it.

And that’s the subject of today.

How to Beat Facebook Rules…

The following video shows how I am able to beat Facebook.

[jwplayer player=”1″ mediaid=”20098″]

It is very important to stay in front of your clients.  By liking and commenting on their content, it shows that you actually care after the sale.

Keeping In Front of Clients and Prospects

This is also a great way of keeping in front of good prospects.  Trust me… they will notice that you are even liking their content: especially if they have less than ten likes per post usually.  Just today I had someone thank me for liking their posts over the past few days.

Let me know if you have your own tricks to keep in front of your clients using social media.  I would love to hear them in the comments below.

Learn Effective Marketing With Facebook Prospecting

“Learn Effective Marketing With Facebook Prospecting” written by Mike Marko.

Are you looking to use Facebook prospecting to help get leads and sales for your business?

Marketing with Facebook can be extremely effective… if done correctly.

But not everyone does Facebook prospecting effectively.  You know what I mean: those annoying emails that you get that are bordering on being spam in your inbox.

Bren wrote a blog post about how to prospect on Facebook a little while ago… some do’s and don’ts.  I want to add to that with today’s blog post.

Marketing with Facebook Prospecting

As part of my regular routine I usually turn to Facebook.  Facebook is great for free leads, but it’s also great for learning more about your prospects before you start your conversation (recon work).  Facebook has 800+ million people on using this social media platform.  These people give away information like their occupation, friends, hobbies, and even daily activities all on their profiles!

Most online marketers don’t realize what a huge opportunity this is to build your business big and long term.

We Do Facebook Prospecting

Bren and I use Facebook prospecting as part of our overall strategy for building our online business.  Marketing with Facebook can be extremely powerful.  It is so powerful that we often send people from our other social media accounts, and even from our blog, to Facebook so we can engage in Facebook prospecting and having conversations with real people.

But some people struggle with marketing with Facebook prospecting.  So I want to share what works.

I’ve found that people have ten times better results on Facebook if they use these easy tricks:

Facebook Market Strategy Tips

Facebook Market Strategy Tips - Marketing With Facebook Prospecting1. Use Their Name

I know this problem sounds simple; but most people don’t get how important this in on initial contact.

There are a LOT of spammers out there, and these people often just copy and paste the same scripts over and over.  They completely neglect building rapport and go straight for the sale.  Bren uses the analogy of guy asking a woman home with him before even asking her out on a date and buying dinner.  You can’t skip steps!

2. Find Common Ground

It is a good ideas to find common ground that you and the prospect have in common.  This can be because you are in a similar geological area (or have in the past), share similar hobbies, are fans of the same sports team, etc.

When you can connect with them showing you have something in common, they will almost immediately feel a connection with you.

Marketing With Facebook Prospecting3. The Three Message Rule

Now remember there are exceptions to this rule, but you should have at least messages from each party (in a back and forth conversation) before you start talking business in any way.

Get into a conversation and start building rapport.  Get to know them some more beyond what’s on their Facebook profile.

Now a common marketing with Facebook prospecting mistake that people make is that they send the link way too soon.  In fact, I go so far as to ask anyone if I can send them a link before I ever do.  And I only send the link if they say yes.

Sounds refreshing, doesn’t it?

It’s much better than throwing a link at someone who hasn’t warmed up to you yet.  Plus I often find that they have more questions or things that need to be talked about before they are ready for that link.  You don’t want to send the link too soon.

Facebook Prospecting4. Listen to Their Questions… and Don’t Ignore Them

What inspired me to create this blog post in the first place was someone trying to prospect me this morning.

I answered all their questions, but they refused to answer mine about them.  There was no exchange: I was trying to learn more about them.

Instead I felt ignore and my needs not important to them.  They kept going back to their pitch as if I never asked the question in the first place.

Now I am not expecting you to answer every question in full detail, but at least show you are listening to them and acknowledge with they asked by giving an answer.

5. Give Them Your Attention

When you start a conversation with someone, be sure to give them your attention.  Nobody wants to feel like they are not important, and that you have better things to do than talk to them.

Plus you can end up sounding rude or “absent from the conversation” if you are not fully paying attention to what they are saying.

Final Word on Facebook Prospecting

Marketing with Facebook can be extremely effective, especially when you use Facebook prospecting.  But stay with it.  You may not get leads and sales right away, but as you keep doing it consistently every day (like talking to ten people a day using Facebook prospecting) in the long term you will build up rapport and also success in your business.

Let me know your thoughts on Facebook prospecting in the comments below.
