Difference Between Gratitude and Appreciation
We tend to use these words interchangeably, but they don’t mean the same thing.
We use the word gratitude almost out of habit and without realizing there might be a better way. At Thanksgiving, we would go around the table and ask the question “What are you grateful for?”
I have heard of having a gratitude journal where you write the things you are grateful for in your life. This is a great way to raise your vibration with positive emotions.
But there is a slightly better way. It’s a subtle difference and It’s called replacing gratitude with appreciation.
This can have a subtle effect on our ability to manifest what we desire into our lives?
Gratitude vs Appreciation
According to Wikipedia The definition of gratitude is: the quality of being thankful. It’s very subtle, but the quality of being thankful is one of looking at a struggle you’ve overcome.
There is a lingering feeling of the fear that surrounded that struggle and it’s this lingering fear that can be the difference between a high vibrational emotion like gratitude, and an even higher vibrational emotion like appreciation.
Gratitude is a bit less empowering than appreciation. Very subtly, it’s implying that you are lowly and so grateful for the good that has come to you. It implies that you are undeserving in some way and that you are almost indebted to something or someone for all the good in your life.
According to Wikipedia, the definition of appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. In other words, to increase the value of something by your focus on the good qualities of that person or thing.
Increasing the Value
To increase the value of something or to focus on the good qualities of something or someone has so much power, partly because appreciation is the identical vibration of love.
Love and appreciation are the highest emotions you can have on a vibrational scale.
Appreciation is more about a calling to be more of who you are.
Love And Gratitude
Love is a state of godliness and brings you into alignment with your higher self.
This is more in the present tense. Because it doesn’t imply overcoming an obstacle.
“When you feel gratitude, often you are looking at a difficulty that you have overcome, but there is still some of that “struggle” vibration present. The state of appreciation is seeing whatever you are looking at through the eyes of Source. . . You could walk down a crowded street with all kinds of things that a lot of other people would find reason to criticize or worry about, and you would not have access to them because your vibration of appreciation is picking out for you things of a different vibrational nature.” -Abraham
Replace Your Gratitude List With an Appreciation List
Make lists of all of the positive things you like and appreciate. Take some time to reflect upon all the good in your life — having a healthy body, plenty of food to eat, you have shelter and life itself.
Text one or two of your friends with a game called 10 Things, It’s a game of appreciation where you text them 10 things that you appreciate and they text you 10 things that they appreciate and on and on. You can do this daily by being the first one to text your friend the two words “10 things.”
Practice the 10/10 Exercise.
At 10am & 10pm each day, set your phone alarm to vibrate. This serves as my reminder to stop and reflect on the last 12 hours; to find something that has happened that you appreciate.
Before you go to bed, review your day and say thank you.
I believe that practicing the art of appreciation has given me more joy, transformed my relationships, and helped me become a vibrational match to manifesting the life of my dreams.
