How To Blog Effectively in 5 Easy Steps.
You want to learn how to blog effectively in 5 easy steps? It really can be pretty easy to blog if you boil it down to the essentials. This blog post will tell you how to get started blogging today.
Step 1: Picking a Blog Niche – the First Step in Learning How to Blog Effectively in 5 Easy Steps
Ok, first of all you need to know what you want to write about. That is your blog niche. You can literally blog about anything you want. I would pick something you are passionate about… something that you talk about with your friends if they let you climb up on your soapbox.
If it is something you naturally want to talk about, it will be easy to sustain the blog over the long haul.
What do you think you can talk about all the time? For some it could be cooking recipes, or cars, or favorite pets, or favorite sports team, or about caring for kids, etc.
If you are looking to make money online, you need to also think about how you make monetize your blog. Google your Niche title and then the words “affiliate”. For example, Google “Dog Affiliate” and see what products that come up. You can make money online with a lot of things you wouldn’t think of if you looked.
The most common ones are “how to make money online”, “health”, and “relationships”, but don’t feel limited to these only.
Narrow Your Niche
To blog effectively, it is important that you focus your blog niche even further. For example, don’t just talk about dogs because that is pretty generic… instead talk about Dachshunds. You can further narrow it down to talking about breeding Dachshunds and reduce your blog competition even further.
Don’t worry about narrowing the blog niche too far when you start… you can always widen the scope later on. The idea is to start focusing on a narrow niche so that way you can build relevance to that topic in the eyes of Google and start showing up on the search engines.
A good resource to help you pick a blog niche is the blog post, How to Pick a Blog Topic – When You Think “All of the Good Blog Niches Are Already Taken.”
Step 2: Determine Your Blog Audience
“If you blog to everyone you blog to no one.”
You can’t appeal to everyone. That is a fact. So start narrowing in on a target audience. Often that is an audience that is close to ourselves, but that isn’t necessarily required.
Give some thought about your audience.
You can learn more about how to determine your blog audience by check out this blog post, How to Determine a Target Audience for Your Blog or Online Content.
Step 3: Determine Your Blog Platform
There are lots of blog platforms to choose from. Some free, and some you have to pay money to access.
Personally I prefer blogs I have to pay for because
- I can control the ad space (which is key if you are looking to monetize your blog).
- I want to blog about whatever I want (often on free sites they can shut you down if they don’t approve of your content).
- I want a lot of the control over the site appearance (many free sites only allow you to control the theme… not the details about the blog).
- I want to be able to choose my widgets and plugins… the tools needed to help build your blog effectively.
Want to know how to blog effectively and as efficiently as possible? The blog that I recommend (and use) is a marketing platform by Influx Entrepreneur. It has the following benefits:
- It ranks very well by Google before you even start.
- You have a lot of control over the advertising space.
- There are a lot of free plugins that make it get specific keywords to show up on the first page of Google.
- You can make it into a Members Site where you can charge to have access to parts of the website.
- It is very easy to use, and there are knowledgeable people to help you if needed.
- It is inexpensive, especially if you compare it to the cost if you were to create the website from scratch ($1,400).

Step 4: Write Your Blog Posts
This is the really fun part. This is where you talk to your audience and provide as much content as possible.
Don’t Sell If You Want to Blog Effectively
Don’t fall into the trap of many blogs where they are basically infomercials. I know I made that mistake in the past myself. You have to make sure you don’t focus on the money making aspect of a blog (if that is your goal).
Instead provide as much value to your readers as you possibly can. Don’t hold back. Make them hungry for more so they want to come back over and over.
The Daily Routine
Ideally you should be writing a blog post every day, especially if you want to be able to monetize your blog. Focus on different keyword phrases for each blog post to keep your content fresh, but to also increase the chances of being found by Google.
Make sure you break up your writing with new paragraphs, headings, and picture, to keep the blog posts easy to read and entertaining.
Step 5: Tell Others
You can create the best blog posts in the world, but if you don’t let people know about them then you won’t get any readers.
Optimizing your blog post for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is one way for people to find your blog post when they search on Google, but there are other ways to build up traffic to your blog. Check out this article, 3 Things to Do Right AFTER You’re Done Writing a Blog Post, and the follow up blog post, 6 MORE Things to Do Right AFTER You’re Done Writing a Blog Post, to get some ideas on how to get eyes on your content.
So that’s it. I just explained how to blog effectively in 5 easy steps. These steps get easier and easier the more you create new blog posts. The toughest part of this will be your first couple blog posts as you start building this into your routine. But over time it will become a natural part of your day and you will actually miss the days that you were prevented from posting (for instance, I drove all day yesterday so I have plans to post twice today). 🙂
