“How to Make Better Decisions With Your Heart Using Science” written by Bren Koger.
Do you make decisions based on your heart or your head or both?
If you said your head (logic and analysis) then you might want to read the rest of this article.
Recent scientific research is showing that the heart (not the brain) is actually the major center of intelligence in human beings!
How to Make Better Decisions Using Your Heart
If you’re like me, you learned in basic physiology that the brain is the major control network for the body; while the heart is an organ that pumps blood through the body.
Researchers are now finding that the heart is so much more than just a pump. It’s been found to contain 40,000 “excitable cells” called cardiomyocytes. which actually relay information to the brain from the heart.
It’s like the heart is a “mini brain.”
There are several reasons why this is important.
Reason #1: Your Heart Is a Natural Conduit to Your Subconscious Mind
Your heart is a natural conduit to your subconscious mind and what New York Times best-selling author Gregg Braden calls the divine matrix.
In 1944, Max Planck, the father of quantum theory, shocked the world by saying that this “matrix” is where the birth of stars, the DNA of life, and everything between originates.
“Recent discoveries reveal dramatic evidence that Planck’s matrix – The Divine Matrix – is real. It is this missing link in our understanding that provides the container for the universe, the bridge between our imagination and our reality, and the mirror in our world for what we create in our beliefs.” – Gregg Braden
When you make a decision based on your heart-brain not just on your logical brain you are accessing the entire matrix of all that is.
Reason #2: You Deep State of Intuition
This is where deep states of intuition come in. You tap into your subconscious mind which is your connection to all the information that has ever happened and ever will happen.
Reason #3: Super Learning & Pre-Congnition
This is where super learning and pre-cognition come into play.
The heart knows what to do way before we do.
All of this makes even more sense when you think about the basic physiology of these heart nerve cells.
They are made up of a neuron which is a cell body and a something called dendrites
They are literally picking up signals from other cells and communicating with other peoples cells and the divine matrix.
The heart emits an electrical field which is 100 times greater in amplitude than the activity in the brain,
You are always emitting a magnetic field from your heart space that connects with all of the other heart fields that are around you.
This is measurable for several feet outside the body.
This is why it is so important to be aware of the thoughts you are thinking and the emotions you are feeling. You are literally sending out that signal to everyone around you.
Everyone Is Connected
We are all connected to each other through a matrix and communicate through our nerve cells and electromagnetic field.
When we have certain fearful thoughts and emotions like frustration anxiety and worry the signal gets all jumbled and erratic.
When we think positive thoughts like love, compassion, care, gratitude and appreciation the signal gets regular and powerful. Our connection between the heart and brain becomes coherent. And we emit life-affirming hormones through our entire body.
Have you heard the term like attracts like with the law of attraction? We are constantly sending our a magnetic signal into the field of potential. If the signal is clear, you will be able to create from that field.
Increasing Your Heart-Brain Connection
It makes sense then that you would want to increase your heart-brain connection to access this powerful mini brain in order to make more heart-based decisions
You might be asking, what do you mean by heart-based decisions? And how to make better decisions with my heart?
To unleash the power of this matrix in our lives, we must understand how it works and speak the language that it recognizes.
Mike and I attended the “Conscious Living in a Time of Extremes” event held by Gregg Braden in Sedona, Arizona this month.
Through the use of some really cool Heartmath tools. https://www.heartmath.org. We learned to monitor and “train” our hearts to maintain a more healthy and sustainable level of peace, love, and harmony.
With the Heartmath tool a sensor attached to your earlobe assesses the heart’s rhythm and measure some physiological reactions based on a persons thoughts and emotions.
Changes in Heart Rhythm
The picture below shows the difference between the peaceful, orderly smooth heart wave of appreciation as opposed to an erratic one with frustration.
With this tool as an indicator of whether or not you have heart brain coherence. (Which is a logical, orderly and harmonious connectedness between the heart and brain) you can routinely train yourself to be aware of your emotional state.
How to Use This Knowledge
With this awareness, we can train ourselves to be in a more coherent state and then virtually no energy is wasted because our systems are performing optimally and there is synchronization between heart rhythms, the respiratory system, blood-pressure rhythms, etc.
Among the many benefits of heart-brain coherence are
- increased composure,
- more energy,
- clear thinking,
- enhanced immune-system function and hormonal balance,
- creative flow,
- inner guidance.
It’s our connection to our true selves.
How to Make Better Decisions – An Exercise
Try this simple exercise to increase your heart-brain coherence:
Focus on your attention on your heart space and breathe a little deeper than normal
You can put your hand on your chest around your heart area if you’re comfortable with that.
Now imagine breathing through your heart area with long deep breaths (5 seconds in and 5 seconds out).
Think about a time when you feel the most care and compassion or appreciation and gratitude. It might be when you are petting your dog, hugging a loved one or see a video that brings you to tears. Gregg showed us this video to help us get in our heart spaces.

The key is to focus on something you appreciate
This is heart coherence; that state of connectedness and harmony when the mind and emotions are brought into coherent alignment with the heart.
The more we become more coherent with this simple exercise and the more we pay attention to this deeper intuitive inner guidance, the greater our ability to access this intelligence more frequently.
Take two or three minutes a day for an appreciation break. Ideally in early morning, and before bed.
Imagine with me a world where every person has this awareness and practices the tools to make heart-based decisions every day. Where everyone knows how to make better decisions with their hearts.
When we change our internal world the external world can’t help but change.
