“Power Couples Hangout – March 26 | How to Do Email Marketing” written by Mike Marko.
Are you having trouble getting sales for your business?
If you are, you’re not alone. This is a very common problem for many businesses, including online businesses.
This is often overcome by creating a list of customers and sending them information to keep you in their mind. Offline this takes the form of flyers, promotional letters, etc. But in the online world this takes the form of emails.
Email is a powerful tool for getting your message out there.
But the problem is that even if you had the foresight to collect emails with your website (and if you haven’t, you better start!) you may still not be getting sales from your “list.” That’s because there are several techniques you need to practice when emailing your list.
This leads us to the topic of today’s Power Couples hangout…
How to Do Email Marketing
But wait!!! Do you have the right tools? Before you can put these email tips into practice, you need an email autoresponder. Read this to learn two choices we recommend. In that blog post we talk about the pros and cons of two very popular email autoresponders, Aweber and GetResponse.
The Video Hangout
Let’s watch our hangout, where Bren and I discuss how to do email marketing with our co-Power Couples, Brian White and Felicia White. In the video we give a LOT of tips on how to do email marketing.

Summary of Points on How to Do Email Marketing
Since we covered a lot of content, I thought I would summarize some of the key points below.
Tell People To Enable Images, Make Images Clickable and Text Clickable
Use Images to Add Interest in the Email.
Don’t want to lose the opportunity for your email readers clicking to get to the desired target. Make sure there are several opportunities to “click the link” even if the image is not enabled.
Tell People What to Do
Strong calls to action is key. You need to tell people what to do in your email, otherwise you won’t get the desired outcome.
Be Visually Different with Headline
Do things like the following:
- Variations on capitalization (like all lower case),
- Phone numbers,
- Headlines that look like your texts.
Make Sure Your Email is Giving Value
When it comes to email marketing, “the best subject lines tells you what’s inside, and the worse subject lines sell what’s inside.”
And always provide value. Value will get people to keep opening your emails, and even looking forward to the next email.
Make Email Mobile Friendly
53% of emails are read on mobile devices.
Resend Good Email Copy with Different Headlines
Keep resending email to the people who are not opening emails, but with different email headers.
Here are some signature tips of what to include:
- Clickable image of yourself to help build a level of trust,
- Social media platform contact information,
- Google phone number,
- Your website/blog URL address.
Make it Easy to Unsubscribe
You want people to unsubscribe if they are not happy with your emails… get them off your list. Prevents people from hitting the spam button. It also helps sift through the people you don’t want to work with anyway.
Also remember you pay more as your list grows. It is better to have quality over quantity.
Narrow columns of text make it easier to read, and even skim, your email and get the important takeaways.
You can also use bold, or highlighted text, to make things stand out more. But use sparingly otherwise it loses its impact.
Don’t Use Misleading Subject Lines
Keep the subject line, email body, and even target of clicks, all congruent. Tricking people to open an email will only hurt you long term.
Email is a powerful way to grow your business.
While the main purpose of a website is to collect email to build a list, which is your most valuable asset online, you need to email your list regularly and follow the points outlined in our Power Couples Hangout. This will help you to keep growing your business, and making money online.
Remember, the “money is in the list”… and if you treat your list with respect it will grow and give you a good return on your effort.
