There’s really no “get rich quick” scheme in affiliate marketing.  If someone tells you otherwise… run away!  Instead there is a tried-and-true path that even you can follow that will generate significant online income for you.

Getting Started With Your Affiliate Marketing Blog

Let’s get started with your affiliate marketing blog.  But first things first…

Choosing What To Promote

There are two different things you can consider when picking what you want to promote on your website. Many people try to focus on what are well proven money makers specifically, while others go with what they know and love. Hopefully, you can find something that satisfies both criteria.

Of course making money is the ultimate goal, but it’s also important that you are comfortable with the products, can feature/benefit from your product(s), as well as be comfortable in answer questions about them. Having a passion for the product is a huge bonus. Your enthusiasm and conviction will come through in every post and video.

How to Build A Money Making Affiliate Marketing Blog

Start by selecting a good affiliate marketing program that has a proven record.  Bren and I recommend the IPAS system because of its proven record.  Combined with the profit maximizers, it has the potential to make you a significant amount of money.

Then take a look at other affiliate opportunities with companies like Amazon and Clickbank.  This will help supplement the income from your main opportunity. Decide which ones are a suitable match with your goals, the affiliate company you selected, and the overall blog niche (and your target market) and start making accounts. Sign up with all the big names, but have a clear end goal in mind.  If you haven’t determined your blog target audience yet then check out this article.

Your affiliate marketing blog should be highly focused and your goals crystal clear.

Putting Your Website Together

There are systems presently available to build websites that are super easy to use. Don’t be intimidated if you’re not a webmaster or coder because anyone can do this nowadays. You need to first start with a clear idea of the image you want to present with your site (your brand), then follow the steps to create it. Use a reliable blogging platform that offers flexibility and covers all the things you’ll be needing, like widgets and plug-ins.  For this I recommend the Influx Entrepreneur blogging system… this is the same system Bren and I use.

Play around with the blogging tools available to you until you feel comfortable creating your website.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and click buttons.

Take a look at other blogs in your niche, and make a list of what you’ll need (like an About Us page, etc.)  Test and tweak the site over time (it will always evolve over time) until it represents your best ideas in marketing, and highlights the products you want to promote.

Decide on a Linking Strategy

Building links is a very important aspect of building your affiliate marketing blog. When other sites link to your site it establishes your authority, relevance and weight in your niche. There are services that can build your link network faster and more efficiently…. But it’s extremely important that you build a link portfolio that search engines demand of the sites they rank. Otherwise, you risk penalties in the future… penalties that could wipe your webpages completely off the Internet map.

Check out the article, What is On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO – Search Engine Optimization, to learn more about how to build a link portfolio to the webpages you want to rank.

Present Your Affiliate Marketing Blog to All the Search Engines

You can blog for months and not generate any traffic to your blog.  That is because you need to be indexed with all major search engines: basically telling search engines “here I am”. There are millions of webpages and the search engines need some help finding your content.  To help with this create a site map, install the search engine analytics, and connect with social networks. Submit your site to Google, Bing and Yahoo.

You should schedule regular updates that will help keep your site active with search engine crawlers. Learn how to put Google and other search engine tools to work for your affiliate marketing blog. Although the other search engines are important, make sure you master the basics with Google to really maximize your earnings potential.

Climbing Your Way Through the Search Engine Rankings

Ranking your webpages can be a very fickle thing. You have to constantly promote your blog and static pages.  It isn’t going to be automatic… and is not something that happens simply because your site is attractive. The competition for ranking articles is pretty fierce so don’t just sit there waiting for something to happen. Do guest posts on other blogs.  Ask bloggers within your niche to do the same on your affiliate marketing blog. Increase your social networking presence.

Keep things fresh on your website by creating great content on a regular basis (I recommend daily).  Take the time to participate in forums where you know potential customers may be found. Be a problem solver for people everywhere.  If you’ve done everything right, the popularity of your site will naturally grow exponentially and your traffic will increase.

It Will Take Time

While things may not happen overnight, there is a substantial amount of money to be made as an affiliate marketer. You will find that eventually you’ll progress to the point where you have to work less to more profits come in.

How to Build a Backlink Network to Help Rank in Google

How to Build a Backlink Network to Help Rank in Google” written by Mike Marko.

If you have been following me over the past few weeks, you know that Bren and I have been successfully promoting the IPAS2 system.  To help promote it, I have been doing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to rank in the top three spots in Google for several keyword phrases related to the IPAS 2 System.

I have already talked about the difference between on-page and off-page SEO.

In this blog post I want to talk more about how to build a backlink network that will help you improve your chances of ranking in Google.

How to Build a Backlink Network

Step one when learning how to build a backlink network is… identify what page you want to rank in Google.

This page should be setup with good on-page SEO, and contains tons of good content, is visually appealing, and generally invites people to read it.  You don’t want people to have a bad first impression.

First Step in How to Build a Backlink Network – Tier 1

Next we built a tier 1 backlink, or a backlink that points directly to the page we want to rank, as shown in the diagram below.

Write a 600+ word article to put the backlink in.  I like keep to the topic that is related to the target page because sometimes those pages will rank too, but it isn’t necessary.  Make sure to include the keyword you want to help rank for in the article.

SpinRewriter 5 Review - Article Spinning Software 2Next I use an article spinner, like SpinRewriter (here is my affiliate link), to spin the article up to 30 times.  I spin it up to 30 times so that it can be used up to 30 times on different websites before having to create a new article.

Then I post the spun article on a Web 2.0 site, like Blogger or WordPress.  Web 2.0’s should be included in your backlink portfolio because they have more credibility.   You want to minimize any “weak” or “junk” backlinks to the page you are trying to rank because they could hurt your ranking if they are done in excess.  If it doesn’t look natural, or likely, from natural backlinking then it has a higher chance of being penalized.

Now link to the target article from the post.  There are different ways to link to the target article.  You need to vary this up as much as possible to make it appear natural to Google.  The different ways are:

1)  Naked URL.  This is your full website address right in the article.  (e.g. “”)

2)  Brand Anchors.  This is where you use your brand name in the anchor text.  Google gives priority to a site with obvious branding.  (e.g. “Bren and Mike”)

3)  Different Variations of Keywords in Anchor Text.  This is where you vary up the text used to link to the target site.  Don’t just use the keyword phrase in your anchor text because that doesn’t look natural.  (e.g. “IPAS 2” and “click here for more”)

4) Hyperlinked Images.  This method is often overlooked, but people love to click on images.  Therefore it is a huge advantage to you to hyperlink all images.  These hyperlinks can either become backlinks to your target page, or links to lead capture pages.

Second Step in How to Build a Backlink Network – Tier 2 & Tier 3

The next stage is to build up the tier 2 and tier 3 backlinks.  The purpose of these backlinks is to shore up the strength, or increase the link juice, of the tier 1 backlink.  These axillary backlinks don’t have to be “solid” backlinks, and they can include social bookmarks and other poorer backlinks,  The tier 1 backlink acts as a buffer to the page you are trying to rank, so if one type of backlink gets heavily penalized then that hit will be buffered by the tier 1 backlink.

To manually build tier 2 and tier 3 backlinks can be very tedious.  That is why I use LinkEmperor (here is my affiliate link) to create these backlinks and continually adding to these backlinks over time.

You want to keep building backlinks to the page you’re trying to rank.  If the backlinking stops, then the content may appear outdated to Google, and fall out of favor.

Growing Your Business with SEO and Affiliate Marketing

Growing Your Business with SEO and Affiliate Marketing” written by Mike Marko.

A lot of times I see websites with blog posts that have little thought put towards on-page SEO.  It causes me to scratch my head… other than doing paid traffic and maybe some social bookmarking, how do they intend to build traffic to their site?

Growing traffic can even be more challenging if the website has affiliate marketing to try to cash in on their traffic.  Often the advertising of the affiliate products can be too in the face for the average visitor, thus giving them a poor visitor experience. With an experience like this, it will be a lot more difficult to bring back the visitor back to the website.  And a lot of your effort to get traffic to your site will have been wasted.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) allows you to tap into the endless supply of new visitors.  People using search engines to find content can be extremely valuable to someone making money from affiliate marketing.

But even with SEO, you need to strike a balance between promoting your affiliate links and trying to make money from your website.  One of my main ways of making money online is to combine SEO and affiliate marketing.

Find Your Keyword Phrase for SEO and Affiliate Marketing

The first step is to research a keyword phrase for the page.  When I am writing my blog posts, I like to use the Google Keyword Planner tool to find keywords that have low competition.  I don’t like to put in as much SEO effort with my blog posts like I do with my money pages, so I go for low competition keyword phrases.  Where a base keyword may be “MLM”, a better main keyword phrase for a blog post may be “free online MLM leads” because it would have a lot less competition than the generic term, “MLM”.

I would then use that keyword phrase in the blog post like I describe in the blog post, Beginner Blog SEO Tips – Help Google Find Your Blog.

Know Your Audience

Pick keyword phrases that are relevant to the audience you want to attract to your page, ultimately to your affiliate products.  SEO and affiliate marketing can be very effective as long as you do some forethought with regards to the keyword phrases you use.

Knowing your audience before you start creating content can really help improve your success with online marketing.  Even if you do the best combination of SEO and affiliate marketing possible, if you don’t match your offer with the visitors you are attracting, you won’t be very successful.

The blog post, How to Determine a Target Audience for Your Blog or Online Content, can help you better define your audience for your website.  Take the time to make sure you really understand you audience.  Then everything else will start falling into place.

What is On-Page and Off-Page SEOSEO and Affiliate Marketing with Money Pages

Up to this point, we have talked about keyword phrases for your blog posts.  Another important aspect of SEO and affiliate marketing is your money pages.

Money pages are webpages, usually static pages, that attempt to attract buyer traffic to your website.  They use SEO to target people to your website that want to buy products similar to, and often competing with, your affiliate offers.

These pages often use keywords such as “Review”, “Legit”, “Scam”, or “Bonus” in conjunction with the name of the product being reviewed.   For example, a very successful money page for me right now is  The page, “What is IPAS 2 – Read this IPAS2 Review“, is a review of the IPAS2 system for a product launch that is currently underway.

SEO and Affiliate Marketing During a Product Launch

Trying to rank in Google during a product launch isn’t for the faint of heart.  It can be gut wrenching as other marketers are competing for the same keywords.  But with the right on-page and off-page SEO strategies, you can get a lot of traffic to your website during a launch.

With the example of I was able to get at the top of Google for several keyword terms.  This was very profitable for me, but it was a constant battle of building backlinks during the launch.  This was my first product launch, and so now I know how important it is to build up your backlinks WELL in advance if you can.  Not only do you have to worry about building backlinks to optimize your SEO, but you also have to make sure they get the pages indexed otherwise Google will not recognize that they exist.

Keep Your Audience for Your SEO and Affiliate Marketing

An important element of SEO and affiliate marketing is actually making the webpages inviting and informative to the visitors.  If you just keyword stuff the content so that it is clunky, and not easy to read, then odds are your visitors will be gone before you know it… thus increasing your bounce rate.

So take the time to create good, informative content that will retain visitors and reduce bounce rate.

This also means keeping your affiliate marketing on the down-low.  While it is important to still have elements of marketing, don’t make it obvious that the only reason the website exists is for you to make money… nothing will drive people off faster than if they think you are trying to sell them.

Now the exception to this rule are my money pages that are part of my own affiliate marketing, like for the IPAS 2 system.  The purpose of these money pages is to attract visitors from Google specifically looking for information to confirm that they want to buy that product, and then to close the deal.

Just keep your visitor experience in mind no matter what you do.  Put yourself in the shoes of your visitor and ask yourself, “would you like to visit a webpage like this”?

If you do, you’ll do better than a lot of people combining SEO and affiliate marketing.

Wrap Up

This is just an overview of how to use SEO and affiliate marketing together.  As you continue to practice and learn SEO, you’ll be rewarded with the results down the road. Remember you are building a long term business here. Be patient and blog every day!
