You are Already an Entrepreneur
You’re probably thinking Ah, No, I’m not… I’m not self-employed, have never founded a start-up venture, and I’m certainly not a risk taker.
But you don’t have to own a small business to consider yourself an Entrepreneur. You’ve probably been using an entrepreneur mind-set in your current job and not even been aware of it.
Even If you have a job working for a company 9-5, you’re probably already an entrepreneur.
With advances in technology and globalization today, your job is no longer as secure as it was 50 years ago. There’s competition from workers from other countries and women are staying in the job market longer. It’s not typical to stay in the same company for 30 or 40 years and retire with a pension like it was a generation ago. We are forced today to adapt to the changing economy all the time by networking, looking for opportunities elsewhere, and considering a non traditional career path. More and more, it is up to us to learn a new skill or train to invest in ourselves to ensure employment in the future. These skills we’ve learned out of survival are the very skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur
So whether you are an artist, designer, or writer, a scientist, marketing a product, or finding new and better way to sell houses. To survive in todays changing job market you have had to go through the creative/entrepreneur process and with today’s changing work force, it’s critical to your survival to act more and more like our careers are our own small business.
And its easier than you think to develop some of these habits because it’s inherent in our nature as creative human beings, and something you’ve already been doing without realizing it.
In other words …everyone is a least partially already an entrepreneur!
In the list below count how many of these tasks you are already performing in your current job or as a side job.
Entrepreneurship is about:
• taking risks
• solving problems
• thinking outside the norm
• developing new ideas
• taking it upon your self to learn a new skill
• generating opportunities
• network building
• dealing with uncertainties
• building relationships
• seeking break out opportunities
• navigating tough challenges
• exploring what works and what doesn’t
• accepting change
Acknowledge your inherent entrepreneur mindset.
